Cuauhtemoc is a picturesque town in the state of Colima, Mexico; this is the place where JJ and I decided to make our piece of paradise after we retired and moved from Las Vegas.
This is my hometown and being back here, after more then twenty years, brings back so many childhood memories; I have to admit that it has been an adjustment moving to a small town after living for so many years between Los Angeles and Las Vegas but, there are so many good things about this cute place that I would like to share with you; specially for those who are looking for a nice, safe and quite place to make it a second home in Mexico, a place that hasn't been discovered and that is waiting for those who would like to have the opportunity of living a comfortable life on a very reasonable budget.
Life in Cuauhtemoc can be very quite but not boring and that's what makes this place very special, the weather is one of the best in the state of Colima; keeping temperatures between low 60's and high 80's year around. The town has very good infrastructure and offers all the basic amenities for a population of 27,107. The capitol, Colima, is only a ten minutes drive; here you would find all the amenities and entertainment of a modern city, including those we're use to having in the states. The cosmopolitan city of Guadalajara is about two hours drive which makes it very convenient, specially when we travel and need the international airport.
Cuauhtemoc keeps the charm of a typical Mexican town with cobblestone streets, old colonial houses and traditions but, it also offers the modern conveniences and is very well connected. There is a national airport about four miles from this town that has connections with the international airport in Mexico City, taking a direct bus from the bus station in Colima to the international airport in Guadalajara has been our best option; driving or taking a bus to travel around the country on the modern toll roads makes our trips very pleasant.
Getting around town is very easy, you can do everything by foot
because this place is very walkable. To go to the main city, Colima, there are
private taxis that would take you for about $7 dollars and buses that run
every fifteen minutes for about $2 dollars. The buses go to the main bus station where you can connect to go to the oceanside and enjoy the beautiful beaches of the Pacific Ocean, it only takes about 45 minutes to get there.
The main square and the park by the church are the perfect spots to go and relax; you can sit in one of the benches to read a book under the beautiful trees while having some fresh fruit that you can buy from the local vendors or you can go to one of the little cafes to enjoy a good meal. Something I like about going to the main square is that it offers free WiFi so this makes it even more convenient.
Something that makes this town very special is the view of the two volcanoes, one of them is active so you can see the smoke coming out of it; giving a very mystical and majestic touch to this place... And don't be scared because it's far enough not to cause any harm, and the best is that there are canyons and rivers between the town and this amazing "Volcan de Fuego" in case of an eruption, so sit down and enjoy the view.
Walking is something that we enjoy a lot, so we like to go to the outskirts of town and enjoy the countryside and have the fresh air to purify our lungs.
I really believe this town has lots of potential for those who are seeking a new place to call home and have a more relaxed life style; it's also very good for those who want to invest because this place has it all and it's just waiting to be discovered...I will be showing you more about this town and the state of Colima in my next chapters!
To be continued...
Safe travels!
